Rule 53 - Buy Girl Scout Cookies From Girl Scouts

Rule 53 - One of my favorite times of the year is upon us.  No, I’m not talking about March Madness.  What I am talking about are those wonderful treats called Girl Scout Cookies.  Besides them being extremely delicious…why should you buy them?  According to the Girl Scouts website:

“All of the proceeds—every penny—from a local council’s cookie activities remains in the area where the cookies are sold. This revenue is used to benefit girls, some of it directly by remaining in the Girl Scout troop/group treasury and some of it indirectly by subsidizing the cost of providing the Girl Scout program in the local area.”

I do believe the Girls Scouts is a wonderful organization for girls, but I will make a slight caveat to simply buying them and add that you should buy Girl Scout Cookies from actual Girl Scouts.  What do I mean by that?  Well, I mean you should make it a point to always buy the cookies from Girl Scouts that are out selling them.  I know the money goes to the same place if you order them thru a parent and I always make sure to order some from folks selling them in the office on behalf of their kids.  I primarily do this just to ensure I get some of the kinds that I really want and it means that I get delivery at the office where the cookies will generally stay for me to give to folks that stop by my desk for a chat.

What I believe is walking the path of the awesome would be for people to always make it a point to buy at least one box every time they see a Girl Scout Troop selling them outside grocery stores, coffee shops, door to door, etc.

Most of the time I never actually need to buy them, but I always grab a box for a few dollars and will most often give them away to my family or take em over to friends houses to share.  Why do I do this?  Because these girls are out there trying to sell the cookies themselves and are putting forth the effort to do this.  Sure they could just sit back and let their parents/guardians do it for them, but they are working hard to be their own little fundraisers.  I want them to know their efforts aren’t wasted and that working hard themselves does pay off so that they don’t learn to sit idly by and let others do things for them.  The out of pocket cost to you is minimal to walk this path of awesomeness, but the life lesson you help to teach and the benefit to the troop itself is worth so much more.  Stay awesome my friends.

Boxes of Girl Scouts Cookies are full of so much tasty awesomeness

What are your favorite Girl Scout Cookie flavors?  Personally, I am a thin mint fan and love to eat them frozen.

Rule 52 - Celebrate International Day of Awesomeness

Rule 52 - Did you know that March 10th is the International Day of Awesomeness?  Sure it may not get the attention that President’s Day, Memorial Day, or New Years Day gets…but that doesn’t mean it is any less important.  So what is Int’l Day of Awesomeness?

According to DayofAwesomeness.com, it is a celebration of awesomeness. People are awesome every day, frequently don’t realize it, and their feats of awesomeness are rarely recognized. We aim to fix that, with a special day to both perform and celebrate feats of awesomeness!

Most of you are walking the path of the awesome already so you may ask yourself, “What else can I do to be more awesome to celebrate this day”?  The answer is simple: take your awesome to the next level.  Maybe you go out of your way to help someone out, pick up a lunch tab for your co-workers, join the Rules of Awesomeness FB fan page and share the link with all your friends (that plug…was totally awesome), or give a friend or relative a phone call today that you havent talked to in a while.  Be creative.

Living the life of awesome means you have to continually strive to reach new levels of awesomery (creating new words is friggin awesome too).  Leave a comment about what you did today to take awesome to new levels.  Just remember, being awesome doesn’t start and stop on March 10th.  You need to keep on keeping on every day of the year.  Stay awesome my friends.
